PIE Kit

10 October 2008 — tetp

(NOTE: This page is a work-in-progress. Please bookmark it and visit again for more information on being a “Transformer” - a proactive PIE agent of change and “Servant Warrior” for One Nation and One-People building, even as you pursue your own pet causes - pdt 101008)

“I. Call to Battle

TRANSFORM EDUCATION AND TRANSFORM THE PHILIPPINES!

FIGHT CORRUPTION AND POVERTY NOW!

CHECK CORRUPTION AND END POVERTY BY 2020!

Ninoy Aquino’s battle cry should have been - The Filipino is worth FIGHTING FOR and dying for! All the People Power warriors of 1986 as they rallied to the same battle cry should also have sustained that fervor to fight for the transformation of our society in the years that followed those heady EDSA days.

Today it is as timely for that same battle cry to echo out. But this time it must reverberate louder and with a deeper resolve. Because we still need to fight our fears, our apathy, our selfishness if we are to survive the ills that have accumulated since those historical moments and from those still continue to bedevil us! We must fight or perish!

We live in a period of great crisis and great opportunity! Despite our rich natural and human resources, we are relatively poor compared to most of our neighbors. Our national psyche and morale have also been blighted by corruption - in all its ugly faces and plagues practically all sectors of our society, regardless our heroic heritage and splendid ancestry. Thirty two per cent of our people live below the poverty line. Corruption in turn devours too substantial a percentage of our national budgets while mediocrity has come to substitute for meritocracy with our private sector not exempt, and too many of our people near-slaves to materialism.

Unemployment, hunger, homelessness, crime and violence — these are the evils that haunt and shame us! These are inevitable consequences of a society mired in corruption and poverty. But we also have unprecedented opportunities! Our overseas workers give us economic resilience. A new breed of young, idealistic and competent leaders is emerging in government, business and industry. A spirit of entrepreneurship is catching fire. Let us seize these opportunities for change! Let us transform education and transform the Philippines!

Our Vision and Mission are very clear: we will fight to marginalize corruption and end poverty by 2020 by implanting the Core Values of Patriotism, Integrity and Excellence into our present and future leaders and citizens. These are the counter-forces to neutralize the forces that breed corruption and poverty.

The PIE Values will be the pillars upon which the Common Good will be served, as we all learn and re-learn that to love our country and people as we love our individual homes and families are two sides of the same coin. For in truth one is the other and neither of these pairs can prosper without the other. Integrity and Honesty will ensure that Social Justice will prevail in our land and with it bring progress. For where and when there is equity among men, then each man is drawn to make real all his potentials. The Passion for Excellence will ensure that public works will be done efficiently and with the highest quality, and that the stamp “Made in the Philippines” is to be sought for it embodies the most competitive levels of competence.

With PIE, our leaders will govern well; with good governance, we will have good citizens; with a good citizenry, we will bless ourselves with great leaders; and with such leaders and citizens we will check corruption and end poverty!

We have the resources; all we need is the resolute will, spirit of self-sacrifice for the common good and the foresight to see the kind of tomorrows we all truly deserve. Let us pledge our time, talent and even our lives and fortunes to work together so that we can leave our children a country we can be proud of, and that they in turn can make even better for those who follow them. A nation and one-people who are just, free, peaceful and prosperous!

MABUHAY ANG TETP, MABUHAY ANG PIE, MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!

Brother Roly Dizon, FSC and Philip Tangco

II. Vision and Mission

Vision: A Nation and One-People who are just, free, peaceful, and prosperous.

Mission: Promote PIE (Patriotism, Integrity; Excellence) to fight corruption and poverty.

Concept Guide:

Poverty and corruption are prime consequences of the loss of patriotism (love of country and countrymen), integrity (honesty) and excellence (competence) in a large portion of a population.

Poverty and corruption and their effects are most apparent in physical/material terms, but are also present and are as destructive in the other dimensions – inter-personal, intellectual and spiritual. Sometimes in these spheres they are even more damaging.

By instilling and promoting PIE as Core Values in a critical mass of at least 20% of Filipinos – starting with Key Core Sectors first – poverty, corruption, their effects and the forces that breed these are countered, controlled, and neutralized.

Truly Patriotic Filipinos - moved by Integrity (Honesty) in everything, and driven by a desire for Excellence (Competence) in all they do - will live, work and fight to check corruption and end poverty.

III. The Core PIE Values

Patriotism is vigorous devotion to “one’s fathers’ land” – from the Greek patrios - and it is intertwined inseparably with a love and loyalty for all who share the same heritage - one’s people, in patriōtikos - meaning “relating to a fellow countryman.”

“…Lupang hinirang, duyan ka ng magiting sa manlulupig di ka pasisiil…” our, Filipinos’ pledge of allegiance to country and each other stirs patriotism - actually challenging it in each of us - every time it is repeated in song. In answer we lift our voices, hearts and minds with affection rather than just put the words to tune, but only if we are moved by true patriotism in sincere homage to the nation and people who cradled us from birth. As we should.

For it is this nation and our people whom Divine Creation blessed us with. She is ours, as we are hers, beyond all contests. In the same way we as a people will always be bound together no matter what. Just as a love is for all time so long as it is always true, we will always be one nation and one people because we want and make it so.

Only in this nation and with our people can we be our true and best selves. Our common heritage has won us that right, as we must enrich it even more for those who follow us. Here is where our dreams and hopes can find fertile ground to set roots in and grow from, just as we were safely sheltered in our individual homes and cared-for as we grew strong from our families’ nurturing. But this can only be if we live valuing our nation as we do our homes and hold as one our people like we do our families. Where one stands up for the other, as the other for the one.

Only if we stand up, defend and invest together in our nation and people can we together soar as one. Like we give of ourselves to make our houses homes and to bind all those we love as one family again and again and as long as it takes. So too for nation and people for in truth, no home and family can ever prosper without the nation and people who embraces and protects them. As also in turn without the gathering of the majority of homes and families bound and working steadfastly together in common interest and destiny can there be one nation and one people.

In TETP Patriotism is living for Nation and One-People as one does for his home and family. There is no difference bounded with the vow… “I-isa tayo - buhat sa diwa hanggang sa walang hanggan - hamak man, tayo lang talaga ang magka-isa.“

Integrity (Honesty) is the second of the three PIE core values. It is a deliberate adherence to live out the truth and to always seek this truth in one’s beliefs, thoughts, words and actions. It upholds what is right especially with moral courage, even when it may run against popular sentiments, or even result in ridicule, or may mean being humbled to accept one’s errors and weaknesses. This extends to treating every man with the same sincerity and moral correctness one wants to be treated by – with equity, courtesy and consideration.

Life with integrity is like a correctly charted ship traveling on a long perilous journey. Honesty holds life steady just as a ship’s rudder keeps it firmly tracked on an unerring heading. Living with integrity will surely be tested, as natural trials are normal to sea voyages. By temptations to take advantage of the weakness of others, to abusively exploit trust and position, to cheat when we think no one is looking and to realize wrongful gain even when it is clearly wrong; but life with this value remains as true as the ship held steadfastly on course despite waves, winds, and weather.

A life of integrity is reward in itself. It bestows nobility that no wealth and worldly praise can ever buy. But there is more. There is the goodness it consequently causes in other men and generates with whomever it touches in ripples from these men passing it on. Making this world a better place with each man it touches. More intimately, while those who are dishonest are haunted, fear being alone and do not know the quiet of a peaceful soul, life with integrity enriches the spirit and soothes the heart, always assuredly whispering, “Maligayahan ka… tutoong maginoo ang buhay mo …“

Excellence (Competence) – this value is a conviction that a task worth doing is worth doing the best way it can be done, at minimum. At its most profound the drive for excellence is a passion to do, perform or be the best in everything because it lifts human dignity, shapes character and brings due credit to all who are party to it, one’s nation and people included. This is matched by an equal self-imposed code of conduct to perform a duty or do a job better each time around it is done. Yet it is simpler to speak of living this and the other PIE values in motherhood statements than to actually live it out.

Striving for excellence - the third of the three PIE core values - is not easy. Seeking progressively improving levels of competence in any field or concern requires dedication and work. But it is worthwhile to rise to these demands. Living this value is gratitude expressed by deed for the blessing of the talents given one to do the job or duty called for. In this, it is equally a responsibility. It is also a tribute - rendering honor to all those who have afforded one the opportunities to excel. Similarly, consistently improving competence hones the skills and systems of the practitioner with each rendering and develops one’s character akin to the cutting and polishing of rough diamonds into each distinct stone’s uniquely sparkling brilliance.

IV. The PIE Values in Practice

This is the harder part. Talk is cheap as they say and it is so easy to point fingers and say that if only values governed people’s lives things would be better. By passing such judgments we often manage to falsely convince ourselves that because we already make these judgments our own lives already conform to the values we preach. Not necessarily.

We must first be conscious of the values themselves – their “whats” and “whys“. With their basics as explained above understood we then need to decide whether they make sense to ourselves, each man to the depths of his being. If so, we should commit ourselves to their practice in all the things we do. From that we must resolve to apply them starting with the small things in our lives, and keep track of our progress.

Since most of our lives follow a routine we can already anticipate many of those small things and situations we encounter in our daily lives – in the streets, while commuting, our schools, offices, with colleagues, friends, bosses, clients and so forth. Encounters and instances when and where the PIE values apply and will be tested. Like movies in our minds we should let these situational encounters play in our mind’s eye and, while they do we must visualize how we will interact as guided by the values.

As we role-play in this way we prepare ourselves to live up to the values. When the circumstances we imagine actually occur we will then more likely do as we practice. And, with practice we will become better in living the values under real circumstances. Subsequently as we internalize the values they will become truly part of us while our lives become committed to living the values. Keep track of your progress, and even if you slip, take note of why that happened and then resolve to do better next time. Practice for these next times with mental role-playing as necessary.

If you are constant and consistent in living the values it will not be long before you will notice that your outlook – how you see people, events and things – will slowly change in a way reflecting the values. Keep track of these changes. As you do reassess the worth of the values based on your actual experiences and observations. If these again continue to make sense, re-affirm your commitment to live by the values. These are the incremental steps to your transformation.

Even as you transform – with your dedication to the values and your confidence to your commitment growing – resist the natural temptation to start preaching to others about the values. Unless, they ask you about the changes they observe about you, your words or actions. At which time, share all you know and have come to know about the values and how living these has transformed your life. Begin by sharing this “PIE Kit” with them, focused initially on the portion about the PIE Values. At this point, you have moved up to become a pro-active PIE Transformer – a true agent of change for Nation and One-People Building.

Develop a bond with those who sincerely embrace the PIE values in their own lives. They are your allies and you theirs, as all others eventually touched in ever increasing circles of comradeship and transformation like ripples in still waters radiating outward from lives lived by the values. Keep track of your collective progress in living the values, find strength and counsel from each other when temptations arise to backslide away from the values, and in the growth of your circle of Transformers. If the time comes you feel moved to make contact with the nearest TETP organization in your location do so and then begin working together with them.

In time your values-driven life and those of your circle of fellow Transformers may encounter situations and persons who with malice deliberately violate the values. It is unfortunate but sadly true that despite the many intrinsically good Filipinos there are those who choose to deliberately live selfishly, with manipulative deception, and for criminal gain at the expense of other people, especially the trusting and helpless.

In such situations, it is your duty precisely in living the PIE values to report such persons to the proper authorities, after if possible, collecting evidence of their wrong doing. Be very careful in dealing with such people for by their nature these people are capable of inflicting harm on others without the least remorse. Contact the nearest TETP organization in your location if necessary for assistance. pdt 171008

V. The PIE Logo

1. “PIE” in our country’s colors:

Patriotism – a love for country and people and to rise and commit to this love in all things – is represented by the national colors and flag.

The “flag” sections of the “P” in PIE are also torso-shaped symbolizing people with their arms upwards and touching, gesturing “praise for God” and “love for our countrymen / unity“

Integrity – honesty as a personal and shared belief and code of conduct is represented by the flame-like shape of the flags and the purity of fire.

Note the “I” in PIE is shaped like a bird with its beak down and tail up, for the Holy Spirit; “I” is also for “Inspiration” from God.

Excellence – competence as a dynamic standard to always pull self up and be better for it by every act and in all things done – is represented by the flags of “E” freely fluttering in the wind, adroit, expert, and confident

2. Transformation by Values and Education – is represented by the bursting sun at the center, as night transforms into a new day at dawn’s break; and as the victory of light over darkness. “TETP” for “Transform Education, Transform Philippines” is spelled out in the upper right hand, ascending, in green for the eternal Hope of Transformation by Values and Education.

Likewise, the flags, shaped like “tongues as of fire” (Acts 2 v. 3-4), are also symbolic of Transformation as the Apostles were transformed into “servant warriors” on Pentecost when “…they were filled with the Holy Spirit.“

The Birth of SPHP GLOBAL Network

WELCOME to SPHP GLOBAL Network!

The conceptualization of SPHP GLOBAL Network started with reflections about my experiences in cyberspace and the realization that there are inevitable built-in constraints in setting up an e-Group for a specific goal or purpose through the hosting services of either Yahoo or Google. Ultimately, the owners, moderators and/or proponents of specific e-Groups will come to reach the point that there is already a need to "break down the walls" that "isolate" the e-G

ISLAM - SHAHADA

Declaration of Testimony (Shahada)

La ilah illa Allah, Muhammad rasoolu Allah!

"I testify that there is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and that Muhammad is a Messenger (Prophet) of God."

First Seven (7) Verses of The Noble Qur'an:

1. Bismillahir rahmanir raheem
2. Alhamdulillahir rabbil ‘alameen
3. Arrahmanir raheem
4. Maliki yaumiddeen
5. Iyyaka na’budu wa iyyaka nasta’een
6. Ihdinas siratal mustaqeem
7. Siratal ladheena an’amta ‘alayheem
ghayril maghdoobi ‘alayheem
wa laddhaleen.

In the Name of Allah, Mercy-Filled and Mercy-Giving –
Praise be to Allah, Lord of all-created being,
All Mercy-Filled and All Mercy-Giving,
Master of the Judgment Day.
We worship You (Alone) and ask Your blessing;
Guide us along the Straight Way,
The Way of those whom You have favored,
not of those You have chastised
nor of those who went astray.

God is Allah/ Yahweh/ Jehovah/Father and Allah/Yahweh/Jehovah/ Father is God!

God is the Greatest!

Praise be to God!

His will be done!

Those who believe (in the Qur´an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures) , and the Christians and the Sabians, any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Verse 62, Chapter 2 - Al Baqara of The Noble Qur'an)

Allahu Akbar!

Which Sports Car Are You?

I'm a Ferrari 360 Modena!

You've got it all. Power, passion, precision, and style. You're sensuous, exotic, and temperamental. Sure, you're expensive and high-maintenance, but you're worth it.
